Mayplas, a leading manufacturer of high-performance insulation solutions, has announced a major logistics transformation with the launch of a new third-party logistics (3PL) contract.
Mayplas enhances insulation product delivery logistics with JO transport partnership
The move to a national 3PL solution, delivered by JO Transport in Bolton, significantly enhances Mayplas’ delivery capabilities, providing customers with improved nationwide coverage, reduced costs, and more flexible delivery options.
The decision to transition to 3PL follows a comprehensive review of Mayplas’ existing transport fleet, which faced increasing operational challenges. With an ageing fleet, rising costs, and restrictions on older vehicles entering areas like London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), the Mayplas team identified an opportunity to streamline its distribution model while improving sustainability.
The new 3PL agreement replaces Mayplas’ previous fleet of three articulated lorries and one rigid truck with a more scalable and cost-effective solution.
Now, JO Transport collects shipments daily from Mayplas’ Bury facility, consolidating and distributing orders through their national pallet network. This allows for greater flexibility, including next-day delivery, specific timed deliveries, and full tracking and tracing via an online portal.
Improved lead times and sustainability benefits
Previously, Mayplas’ own fleet meant that insulation product deliveries had to be on specific days due to transport planning and the small fleet. Now with a more dynamic 3PL solution, customers can receive orders as soon as they are ready cutting delays on shipping terms and getting product to site faster than before.
A key benefit of the move is its positive environmental impact. By consolidating shipments and leveraging an optimised logistics network, Mayplas is reducing carbon emissions associated with running its own fleet. The ability to combine multiple customer orders into fewer, larger shipments helps lower the overall transport footprint. We’ll be able to report on this later in 2025.
A strategic partnership with JO transport
JO Transport, operating from their Bolton depot, has extensive experience in nationwide haulage and was already a trusted provider for other businesses within Performance Technology Group (PTG), of which Mayplas is a part. Having previously served as a backup logistics provider, JO Transport’s commitment to high service levels made them the ideal choice for this strategic transition.
“Our move to a 3PL solution is a game-changer for Mayplas and our customers,” said Andrew Ridyard, Operations Manager at Mayplas. “By partnering with JO Transport, we can now offer improved national coverage, faster delivery times, and a more sustainable supply chain. This allows us to better support our customers while making an environmentally responsible shift away from running our own fleet.”
With this new system, Mayplas can now offer deliveries of 1-6 pallets through the pallet network, while larger orders beyond six pallets will be handled by other dedicated carriers. Fire protection products, which can be palletised up to 2m high, also benefit from this enhanced logistics approach.
Future expansion plans
Currently, the 3PL rollout covers mainland UK deliveries only, with plans to extend services to Ireland and beyond in the future. The use of JO Transport’s online portal ensures a streamlined process, enabling Mayplas to manage shipments efficiently with full visibility from order to delivery.
This logistics overhaul represents a significant milestone in Mayplas’ commitment to continuous improvement. With enhanced flexibility, reduced costs, and a stronger nationwide reach, Mayplas is poised to deliver even greater value to its insulation customers.
